Nigeria Demands Swift And Decisive Action From Ghana After Demolition Of Their Diplomatic Property

Nigeria’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama is demanding urgent and decisive action from the Ghanaian government after some unidentified armed men destroyed a building that belongs to the Nigerian High Commission in Accra.

The armed men are said to have broken through the locked gate with a bulldozer and pulled down parts of a one-storey building under construction on the compound. The structure upon completion was to serve as accommodation for the staff of the High Commission as well as stranded Nigerians in Ghana.

However, reacting to the incident via a Twitter post, Mr Onyeama said they expect a swift action from Ghana to find the perpetrators and further protect Nigerian property going forward.

Meanwhile, the Osu Stool, who apparently ordered the demolition, has accused the Nigeria High Commission of trespassing on its land.

The Paramount Chief of Osu, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, in a statement said the said land on which the structure was destroyed belongs to the Osu Stool and it is separate from that which is currently being occupied by the Nigerian High Commission.
