NIA Ready To Issue More Cards As BOG Issues No Ghana Card, No Banking Transaction Directive

The National Identification Authority (NIA) is to begin replacement of lost or damaged Ghana Cards at the district levels across the country, an official has said.

It comes barely two days after the Central Bank directed that only Ghana Card will now be accepted for all financial transactions effective 1 July 2022.

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on The Asaase Breakfast on Thursday (20 January), Abudu Abdul-Ganiyu, the head of corporate affairs at the NIA said they have the capacity to register Ghanaians across the country for their Ghana Cards ahead of the BoG deadline.

“From where we sit, we are confident about the fact that this deadline that has been set, we will make sure that every Ghanaian who is interested in registering for the Ghana Card is able to do so.

“In the month of November, we decentralised by opening some 291 offices across Ghana where continuous registration is taking place, and for persons who have lost their cards, or their cards are damaged and they come for replacement, we have started to pilot that at our regional offices,” Abdul-Ganiyu said.

“And from next week we will go down to the district levels as well so that if you have lost your card or your card is damaged, you do not have to come to Accra.”
