The Ghana Police Service has arraigned Ibrahim Mohammed, also known as Commander Kanawu, before a court in Accra following his arrest for issuing violent threats against several public officials. The accused, who appeared in court yesterday, September 13, 2024, has been remanded into police custody. He is scheduled to reappear in court on September 26, 2024.

Mohammed’s remand comes as police investigations into his case continue. The court’s decision to hold him in custody underscores the seriousness of the charges he faces, which include threats to harm key government figures such as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Interior Minister Henry Quartey, and Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa.

In the viral video that led to his arrest, Commander Kanawu made inflammatory remarks, accusing government officials of orchestrating illegal recruitment into the police service to influence the 2024 general elections. He further threatened to shoot and harm these officials, declaring that the upcoming election would be violent, characterized by the slogan “All Die Be Die.”

The police have assured the public that they will thoroughly investigate the matter and follow due legal processes. They also reiterated their commitment to safeguarding peace and stability as the 2024 elections approach.

Commander Kanawu’s next court appearance on September 26 is expected to provide more clarity on the charges against him and the outcome of the ongoing police investigation. The police have urged the public to remain calm and continue supporting efforts to ensure law and order during this period.
