Former President John Mahama and former Minister of Finance, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, recently met to discuss the future trajectory of their party and deliberate on strategies for the upcoming 2024 elections.

In a Facebook post, Mr. Mahama shared insights into the productive meeting, expressing satisfaction with the discussions that revolved around the collective goals and aspirations of their political party. The former President emphasized the importance of unity within the party ranks and urged members to channel their efforts towards the growth and success of the party in the upcoming electoral contest.

The meeting gains significance against the backdrop of Dr. Kwabena Duffuor’s withdrawal from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential primaries, a move that surprised many just less than 24 hours before the scheduled election on May 13, 2023.

Dr. Duffuor, a former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, cited concerns over alleged irregularities as the primary reason for his withdrawal, emphasizing his commitment to a fair and transparent electoral process.

Addressing the media in Accra during the announcement of his withdrawal, Dr. Duffuor expressed disappointment with what he perceived as a lack of resolution regarding the identified irregularities. He thanked his supporters and campaign team for their unwavering dedication, acknowledging their role in his decision-making process.
