Prof. Asiedu admitted to his guilt and anti-party behavior, leading the committee to suggest his reinstatement to the Functional Executives Committee (FEC). The FEC, during its meeting on August 1, 2024, extensively deliberated on the committee’s report.
In accordance with Article 48(9)(f) of the party’s Constitution, the FEC decided to reinstate Prof. Asiedu to his position as Regional Chairman for the Central Region with immediate effect. This decision was announced in a statement signed by the General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, dated August 2, 2024.
The Central Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) about a month ago announced the withdrawal of Nurein Shiabu Migyimah as the party’s parliamentary candidate for Assin Central in the 2024 elections. This decision came after complaints were filed against Migyimah, leading to his withdrawal on moral grounds.
The NDC’s Central Regional Functional Executive Committee investigated the complaints and decided to remove Migyimah immediately. They also suspended him for six months while the Regional Disciplinary Committee reviewed the case.
The Executive Committee informed the Assin Central NDC Chairman about the suspension. This suspension will remain until the committee makes a final decision. The party mentioned “immoral acts and anti-party conduct” as reasons but did not provide specific details.
The decision followed a letter signed by Kwetey, which also detailed disciplinary actions taken against regional and constituency executives.
Central Regional Chairman Prof. Richard Asiedu was suspended for one month immediately and referred to the national Disciplinary Committee on charges of anti-party conduct. Similarly, Sadique Broni, the Constituency Secretary of Assin Central, was suspended for one month and referred to the national Disciplinary Committee on the same charge.
Now that the Executives have been reinstated, it remains to be seen if they can effectively collaborate with the candidate to ensure the Party’s victory.
