The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has announced that the party has won 10 out of the 11 parliamentary seats in the Bono East Region, leaving the Techiman South Constituency as the only seat not secured by the party.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday night, Mr. Gyamfi confidently stated, “I can tell you on authority that out of the 11 constituencies, we have won 10 out of the 11. The only one that we did not win is Techiman South.” He refrained from listing the constituencies won but affirmed the party’s dominance in the region.
The announcement comes amidst controversy and unrest in the Techiman South Constituency, where frustrated NDC supporters have protested the declared parliamentary results. Supporters have clashed with law enforcement and vandalized public property, including the Regional Police Headquarters. Protesters argue that the results do not reflect the will of the people, alleging irregularities in the electoral process.
The unrest has escalated, with video footage circulating on social media showing damaged ballot papers and scattered electoral materials, which have further fueled suspicions of electoral malpractice. The NDC’s aggrieved supporters maintain that the election in Techiman South was flawed, despite the fact that their polling agents reportedly signed off on the results at the polling stations.
The clashes have resulted in heated confrontations between the NDC supporters and the police, with widespread protests spreading across the constituency. The vandalism of electoral materials and public infrastructure has intensified tensions, with both the NDC and the authorities calling for calm while investigations continue.
The NDC’s performance in the Bono East Region underscores their significant gains in the 2024 general elections, although the Techiman South controversy remains a focal point of political and public discourse. The party’s leadership has urged supporters to remain vigilant and law-abiding as they pursue legal and procedural measures to address their grievances over the disputed results.
