The Ashanti Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress have initiated steps to petition the Asantehehe, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II to intervene in alleged irregularities that occured in the Ashanti Region in the just-ended election.
According to them, the move is to prevent the looming tensions in the Ashanti Region in particular and the nation as a whole over what the NDC alleges to be a calculated attempt to subvert the will of the people.
The NDC improved their electoral fortunes in the Ashanti Region by 3% over their 2016 performance.
This, coupled with the fact that the party was able to recapture the New Edubiase seat which they lost to the NPP in 2016 has led the party to believe that they won the 2020 elections, and that their win has been snatched from them by the EC.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Party, Augustus Nana Akwasi therefore called on NDC members to converge at Asawase on Sunday and march to the seat of the overlord of Asante Kingdom to present a petition to him to seek his intervention.
