MP for Tamale South, and leader of the minority caucus in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu has revealed that he turned down an opportunity to be Speaker of Parliament.
According to him, when his colleagues proposed him and were pushing the agenda, he had to reject their good intensions because he believed there were two persons in the NDC more capable and qualified than him.
Mr Iddrisu explained that at a meeting with the highest leadership of the NDC at the Office of former president Mahama, he instead proposed Mr Asiedu Nketiah and Mr Bagbin as the most qualified to fill the role of Speaker.
The Minority leader made this revelation at a Thanksgiving service held in honor of the right honorable Speaker, Alban Bagbin in the Waala Traditional Area.
General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah had also revealed a few weeks ago that he turned down an opportunity to be Speaker because he believed Mr Bagbin was more qualified and had more appeal than him.
