Tracy A. Owusu-Addo, the wife of renowned musician Michael Owusu-Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has recently brought the couple into the political spotlight for all the wrong reasons after incurring the wrath of NDC faithful.
In a surprising development, Tracy Owusu-Addo, who typically refrains from political commentary, criticized the current administration’s inability to clear some 45 million dollars worth of medicine, asserting that the government’s limited stake in the Tema Port, a consequence of Mahama’s policies, has hindered its ability to resolve the crisis. Tracy claimed that control over the port was transferred to a French company during Mahama’s presidency, reducing government influence over port operations.
However, her comments have sparked controversy. Critics have questioned Tracy’s sudden political involvement, suggesting potential ulterior motives or connections to government interests related to the Tema Port. Legal practitioner Beatrice Annan, affiliated with the NDC, contradicted Tracy’s claims. Annan described the Tema Port operations as a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) project, rather than a complete handover to a concessionaire, accusing Tracy of engaging in “cheap propaganda” and misrepresenting the nature of the port agreement.
The Tema Port expansion project, signed with Meridian Ports Services (MPS) in 2015, represents a significant infrastructure enhancement, which was aimed at modernizing the port facilities and improving cargo handling capacity. Set for completion in 2025, the multi-billion-dollar initiative is expected to boost trade activities and create job opportunities in Ghana.
