NDC Calls On Asanteman Council to Summon Wontumi Over Distasteful Comment

The Communication Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ashanti Region has appealed to the Asanteman Traditional Council to call the New Patriotic Party’s regional chairman, Benard Antwi Boasiako, to order.

The NDC is of the view that if the regional chairman of the ruling political party spews such talk without being called to order, the floodgates of similar words may follow.

Hence, the party’s appeal to Asanteman Traditional Council to summon Benard Antwi Boasiako to retract his comment on the people’s addiction to NPP even when deprived of development.

While discussing the government’s decision to resort to a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to some party faithfuls, Chairman Wontumi explained that the government’s decision to go for the bailout would not increase the chances of NDC in the Ashanti Region as Ashantis would still vote for the NPP.

“NDC should forget 40% of votes in Ashanti Region, because with or without developments ‘we the Asantes will vote for NPP,” he is said to have stated.

Speaking on Akoma FM‘s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma Tuesday, July 19, Ashanti Region Deputy Communications Director for NDC Kwaku Asafo Agyei called on the Asanteman Traditional Council to summon Benard Antwi Boasiako to get him to retract the comment he made.

Meanwhile, the NDC has taken exception to such assertion, believing the statement is unfortunate and downplays the integrity of Asanteman.

Mr Asafo Agyei, in his reaction to Chairman Wontumi’s statement, further called on the Chief of Staff of Manhyia Palace and the leadership of Asanteman Council to call the NPP regional chairman to order to sanitize the system from similar statements that could heighten political tension as the season draws nigh.

He told host of the show Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin that “I personally find the comment made by the Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region as unfortunate, embarrassing and an insult to his Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu after tirelessly calling on various governments to remember Ashanti Region in their developmental project.”
