The Supreme Court has today ruled in the matter brought before it by the NDC against the EC on whether the commission could conduct a new register at this time, and also if the commission has the authority to decide whether or not to accept the existing voters ID as proof of eligibility in the compilation of the new register.
Though all the parties to the case agree that the supreme court has granted the EC the permission to go ahead with the compilation of a new register, there seems to be conflicting accounts as to the courts decision regarding the acceptance or otherwise of the old voters ID as proof of eligibility.
NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia told pressmen that the court had ruled in the party’s favour. The AG’s office, however, holds a contrary view.
Lawyers for both parties are currently at the court premises waiting for the written order of the court for clarity.
