The National Council of Parent-Teacher Association of Ghana has registered its displeasure against the Electoral Commission (EC) for not consulting them before the decision on carrying out the voters registration exercise in Senior High Schools.
The Council alleges that, the registration exercise was an infringement on the reason why the students had reported to school.
“The students were to be in school to do their revision and sit for the exams,” Alexander Danso, the President of National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations lamented.
Mr. Alex was also worried about the obvious which was exposing the students to the Coronavirus infection.
He said thus, “Those who are coming to do the registration, have they been tested? Are they free from the virus? We have to take into consideration all these things.”
“But if you don’t consult and you don’t do anything and you say you are going to register the students, is that why they brought them to the school? That is not part of it,” he further bemoaned.
The EC had decided on July 10 and July 11 as dates where official would visit all Senior High Schools in the country to be registered for the New Voters Card though EC has revealed that additional dates would be included should the need be.
This decision was confirmed after the Electoral Commission had had a discourse with the Ghana Education Service.
The incumbent opposition party had also condemned the ECs actions and raised worry over the legality of the decision.
