Napo Brokers Peace Among Feuding Factions In Fomena, Resolving Four-Year Dispute
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and widely known as “Napo,” has successfully mediated a peace agreement between two factions in the Fomena Constituency, ending a protracted four-year dispute.
Background
The dispute, which began in 2020, arose when Andrew Asiamah, the Member of Parliament for Fomena, contested the elections as an independent candidate, fracturing the NPP’s support base in the constituency. The internal rift led to the closure of the NPP office in Fomena, severely hampering the party’s operations and frustrating party members.
Napo’s Diplomatic Intervention
During a recent visit to Fomena as part of his campaign efforts for NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Napo took the opportunity to address the ongoing feud. He engaged with both current and former constituency executives, demonstrating a calm and thoughtful approach to resolving the conflict.
In his remarks, Napo urged all parties to let go of past grievances and focus on rebuilding unity within the party. “It’s time to move beyond the past and work together for the success of the NPP,” he stated, emphasizing that the party’s victory in future elections can only be achieved through a peaceful and united front.
Endorsement of Andrew Asiamah
As part of the reconciliation, Napo confirmed the NPP’s decision to reintegrate Andrew Asiamah into the party and back his candidacy for the 2024 parliamentary elections. Asiamah, despite his independent status, has continued to support the NPP in parliament, and Napo expressed confidence that his return to the party would help mend divisions and strengthen their prospects in Fomena.
“Welcome back to Andrew Asiamah,” Napo declared. “We are confident that his candidacy will reinvigorate the NPP base and enhance our chances of securing the Fomena seat.”

In a symbolic gesture of reconciliation, Akwasi Nti, the former NPP Constituency Chairman for Fomena, handed over the keys to the party office to the current leadership, signaling a commitment to move forward in unity. “We are ready to put the past behind us and work for the good of the party,” Nti said.
The sitting constituency chairman, Akwasi Adom, also echoed the call for forgiveness and unity, pledging to lead the NPP in Fomena to victory. “We are committed to working together to ensure the NPP’s success in the upcoming elections,” Adom promised.
