Minority Expects Full Implementation Of Ejura Report; Not Another Ayawaso West Wuogon Fiasco – Agalga

James Agalga, a former deputy Minister of Interior has said the Minority in Parliament expects the government to fully implement the recommendations of the Ejura Committee report which probed the disturbances.

The three-member committee was set up by the government to investigate the violence at Ejura in the Ashanti Region that led to the death of two persons and caused injuries to injuries.

Among the recommendations include body cams for all crowd control units of the security forces.

According to the committee, the application of maximum force by the security escalated the situation.

“All crowd/riot/crisis/control unit be made to wear bodycams and all vehicles and mobile gadgets employed must also have cameras,” the committee recommended.

The committee recommended among other things “training Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and District Security Council (DISEC) officials in the Ashanti Region in conflict and crisis management at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College at least once every year.”

It said “Our findings show that the death of Mohammed Ibrahim aka ‘Kaaka’ and the mishandling of same, was the trigger point for the riots that followed. Meanwhile maximum application of force worsened the situation. We hope that the ongoing investigations of Kaaka would be expedited and the culprits brought to book.”

But Mr. James Agalga in an interview with Citi News said the government must swiftly implement the recommendations by the committee, and not repeat its handling of the Ayawaso West Wuogon commission of inquiry report.

“It is my expectation that the government will implement fully the recommendations of the committee. The government must implement this promptly. We know of the Ayawaso West Wuogon inquiry and the government’s attitude towards the recommendations that were made. Even those recommendations that were accepted in the government’s whitepaper were never implemented. So this time around, we expected nothing but the prompt implementation of the committee’s report.”
