Medikal Fined GHC3,600 After Pleading Guilty to Display of Arms

An Accra circuit court has on Monday (21 February) convicted Ghanaian musician Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal for brandishing a gun in public.

AMG Medikal, his other stage name, was slapped with a fine of GHC 3,600 after pleading guilty in judge Emmanuel Essandoh’s court. The court said if he defaults in the fine he will serve nine months in jail.

Medikal had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The brief facts of the case as presented to the court, by Chief Inspector Terkpetey, the prosecutor, were that, the accused person is a popular musician and sometime last year the accused without any reasonable excuse displayed a rugger 9mm pistol in his car and posted the video on social media.

According to him, the  video of the weapon he displayed on snap chat later went viral when the mainstream media published it.

He said the police acting on intelligence arrested the accused and handed him to the regional criminal investigations department for investigation.

The accused, Terkpetey said, admitted the offence in his investigation cautioned statement and was subsequently charged and arraigned.
