Manasseh Azure Humbly Apologizes To Ibrahim Mahama After Businessman Threatened To Sue

Investigative Journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni has issued a retraction and apology to business mogul, Ibrahim Mahama after he threatened through his lawyers to sue the journalist for defamation following some claims made against him in Azure’s latest book, “the president Ghana never got”.

The issues relate to a passage in the book that mentions Ibrahim Mahama’s alleged indebtedness to the defunct Merchant Bank before its sale in 2013, during his brother’s tenure as President.

In the book, Manasseh Azure stated that Ibrahim Mahama owed the now-defunct bank, a claim that his lawyers have since contested. According to them, it was not Mr. Mahama as an individual, but his company, Engineers & Planners, that was indebted to the bank.

In response, Manasseh Azure Awuni issued a statement via Facebook addressing the matter. He acknowledged the legal team’s clarification and dismissed claims circulating on social media that Mr. Mahama had requested him to remove specific sections of the book. Azure confirmed that while Mr. Mahama’s lawyers did reach out regarding the issue, they did not demand the deletion of pages 89 and 90 as was alleged.

The award-winning investigative journalist has this morning issued a retraction and apology via his social media handles.
