Mahama’s Promise To Scrap E-Levy Is A scam – NPP Warns Ghanaians

Former President John Mahama’s promise to eliminate the E-Levy if re-elected in 2024 has been branded “a fraud” by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the New Patriotic Party, Mahama and his NDC are the only option for picking a path forward at a fork in the road because they cannot be trusted to lead the country to prosperity.

“Just like the one-time premium and repeal of talk tax that John Mahama and his NDC promised but failed to implement when they were in power, this promise is just a political talk,” Yaw Buaben Asamoa, the NPP’s national communications director, said at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday (4 May 2022).

“In any case, can John Mahama explain the disparity between his 17.5 percent financial transaction tax and his manifesto promise to levy a uniform tax on all electronic transactions?” Is E-Levy behind these initiatives, and does he stand by them?” Asamoa had inquired.

“We will agree, as the records demonstrate, that considerable change to our political institutions and conduct, economic structure and management, and beneficial social impact has primarily occurred under the NPP’s watch,” Asamoa stated.

“During President John Mahama’s six years in office, many major national reversals happened. Since then, he has been defeated in two elections. Given that both insiders and outside observers are writing him off, it’s probable that his current address is driven by self-preservation for his continuing leadership of the NDC through 2024,” he added.

“Under John Mahamas’ leadership, Ghana will regress into chaotic ineptitude,” he continued. He is incapable of making decisions, as his memoirs reveals. He plans to ride this country like a bicycle, out of control and dangerously downward, only hoping to survive, as he states in his book.

“The 2024 presidential election will likely be a choice between building on President Akufo-significant Addo’s achievements so far with a new presidential candidate from the NPP who brings his or her own fresh ideas, or choosing the candidate the NDC is threatening to bring back, John Dramani Mahama.”
