Mahama Has No Proper Track Record To Lecture Us On The Economy – Dr. Bawumia

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed former President John Dramani Mahama’s authority to critique Ghana’s economic management.

Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday, August 25, 2024, Dr. Bawumia argued that Mahama’s tenure as president was marked by poor economic decisions, making him unfit to lecture others on economic matters.

“Given his record, I don’t think the former president is in a position to lecture us on economic management,” Dr. Bawumia stated. He expressed surprise at Mahama’s criticisms, considering the challenges left behind by his administration.

According to Dr. Bawumia, Mahama’s presidency ended with significant economic setbacks, including persistent power outages (“dumsor”), the collapse of key public services such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the National Ambulance Service, and a freeze on public sector employment.

Dr. Bawumia further pointed to the termination of teacher trainee allowances, rising unemployment, and stagnation in industrial growth during Mahama’s administration as evidence of mismanagement. He emphasized that the difficulties faced by the country in 2016 were a direct consequence of these failures, adding that Mahama’s track record does not support his current stance on economic governance.
