Luxurious Jet Saga: Ofori-Atta Chose To Protect His Cousin Above The Need For Accountability – Kwakye Ofosu Bemoans
A former Deputy Minister of Information Felix Kwakye Ofosu has bemoaned the continuous resort to luxurious travels by President Akufo-Addo despite condemnations from the public.
President Akufo-Addo has been severally accused of hiring luxurious jets in his travels while abandoning the presidential jet; the recent allegation being that the President flew a private jet while giving the country’s presidential jet to Liberian President George Weah.
In his latest exposé on alleged flamboyant travel expenditure of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said despite the failure of Akufo-Addo to use the jet, the Liberian leader had used it twice in a week.
“Indeed, the president of Liberia landed on Saturday, 18th of September landed at the Robert Airfield, 10 am Liberian time. We know this is the second time in a week that the Liberian president is using our presidential jet,” he confirmed on Joy FM’s News Night programme on Tuesday, September 21.
Reacting to it, Kwakye Ofosu bemoaned why the finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta failed to speak on the issue in Parliament rather held the National Security responsible.
“The Finance Minister’s claim that the matter rests in the bosom of National Security was a complete lie and ruse to evade the question,” Kwakye Ofosu wrote on Facebook.
“It is the Presidency that handles matters of Presidential travel and the money was paid from their budgetary allocation.National Security has nothing to do with it.
“The Finance Minister knows this.
“He is in a position to disclose the figures but simply refused to do so because he placed the protection of his cousin, the President, from public scrutiny above the need for accountability.
“As for the NPP minions defending this, they would defend Akufo-Addo even if he committed genocide so disregard them if you are a genuinely concerned Ghanaian who cares about how your taxes are used and demand answers for why this Akufo-Addo/Bawumia has decided to launch this attack on the public purse.”
