Security Expert, Prof Kwesi Aning has called on President Akufo Addo to sack Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson for firing a gun at a voters registration centre.
According to him, the gunshots were unacceptable, premeditated and put the lives of her constituents at risk. He further stated that the incidence brings to bear how easy it is to acquire a gun in Ghana.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express Prof Aning said, “It is my hope that the President will ask Hawa Koomson to step aside or probably dismiss her.”
Mavis Hawa Koomson had on Monday admitted that she fired a gunshot at a registration centre, stressing it was a way to protect herself.
According to her, she showed up at the registration centre because she heard her opponent had bused people to the place.
“I’m a Member of Parliament, I need to protect myself. It was at dawn, my police escort had not started work yet. So that is a mechanism I have adopted in his absence,” she said.
