Veteran Journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has countered the claims by US-based Ghanaian journalist, Kevin Taylor that President Akufo-Addo is not a qualified lawyer since he was never called to the Ghana Bar.
The issue of President Akufo-Addo’s so-called fake lawyer status was first raised by retired Supreme Court judge, Justice Kpegah in 2013 when he sued then candidate Akufo-Addo for impersonation.
His suit sought the High Court to declare that Nana Akufo-Addo was never called to the Ghana Bar and that his private law firm was thus also illegal.
Justice Kpegah claimed that Nana Akufo-Addo was never admitted to the Ghana Bar and that he was only impersonating another person.
His suit was subsequently dismissed as frivolous and vexatious, with various lawyers, including NDC stalwart, Nana Ato Dadzie confirming that he was called into the Ghana Bar the same year as Nana Akufo-Addo.
However, this issue has recently been resurrected by Kevin Taylor who also claimed in an editorial that the President never qualified as a lawyer.
His claims has been shattered though by veteran journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako who in a series of posts on Facebook has provided evidence which supports the fact that indeed the President was called to the Ghana Bar in 1975.
