The police have arrested Elvis Nsiah, level-200 student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for threatening to stab some students to death.
The suspect is alleged to have threatened to stab five students of the Continental Hall of the university and kill one other student of the same hall to pacify what he refers to as the gods.
The accused person was put before the Asokore Mampong Magistrate Court and has been remanded into police custody to reappear on 30 August 2022.
Meanwhile, investigation is still ongoing to get all others involved in Thursday evening’s rioting arrested to face justice.
What happened?
The students attached to Katanga and Unity (Continental) halls went on rampage on Thursday night, destroying cars and other property on campus.
An eyewitness said that some students from Katanga who embarked on a procession attempted to use the route in front of the Unity Hall, but were met with fierce resistance by their colleagues at the university halls.
“The violence was spontaneous, we saw them engaging in a heated exchange amid loud noises. They began pelting stones at each other. Some were also seen holding other projectiles as well,” said a bystander.
The latest incident could be linked to a hall week celebration, according to some students.
For over a decade, the two halls reached an agreement never to go beyond a particular junction (Peace junction) when on procession.
