In response to recent violent clashes between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Mamobi, Accra, the Ghana Police Service has apprehended a prime suspect identified as Fatawu Ibrahim, also known as “Fatau Motorway.” Fatawu, who was captured in video footage wielding a firearm during the altercation, had been on the police wanted list, with a GH¢20,000 bounty announced for any credible information leading to his capture.
The violent incident occurred during a political campaign walk, escalating into clashes that saw two individuals shot and four others sustaining injuries. The prompt police intervention helped to contain the situation, though the unrest underscored the heightened tensions between NPP and NDC supporters ahead of upcoming elections.
Following a determined search operation, which included cooperation from the public incentivized by the bounty, law enforcement officers successfully located and arrested Fatau Motorway. The suspect is currently being held in police custody and is expected to face legal proceedings in connection with his involvement in the violent clash.
The Office of the Attorney General has confirmed its oversight in the prosecution of the case against Fatau Motorway.
