Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, has demonstrated his loyalty and commitment by backing his close friend, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as Napo, who is the running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections. Agyapong, who was a contender in the NPP presidential primaries but lost, had earlier vowed that he would actively campaign for the party only if Napo was chosen as the running mate.

True to his word, Agyapong was seen campaigning alongside Napo on Thursday morning, bringing his charismatic energy to the campaign trail as they toured Asante Akyem North, Asante Akyem Central, and Bosome Freho. The presence of the outspoken lawmaker significantly boosted the campaign, drawing large crowds and adding momentum to Napo’s outreach efforts.

The campaign was marked by enthusiastic scenes as NPP supporters rallied behind the duo, reflecting the party’s broad support base. The people expressed their satisfaction with the developments the NPP government has delivered over the past eight years, which they believe have transformed their communities.

During the tour, Agyapong and Napo engaged directly with the public, walking through towns, shaking hands, and interacting with locals, creating a strong connection with the electorate. Their efforts were aimed at solidifying support in these key constituencies as the NPP gears up for the general elections.

Napo’s Commitment to National Unity

In a radio interview later that day, Dr. Opoku Prempeh highlighted the inclusive nature of the NPP, describing it as a truly national political party that welcomes all Ghanaians, regardless of their background or status. Tracing the roots of the NPP to the United Party (UP), Napo emphasized that the party was founded by leaders from various regions, including the North, Volta, Accra, and Ashanti, reflecting its broad and diverse origins.

Napo also shared insights into his recent visits to the palaces of influential traditional leaders across the country. He revealed that he had consulted with chiefs from regions such as Akwamu, Kete Krachi, Kwahu, Akuapim, New Juaben, Ga Mantse, Sekondi, Yendi, Denkyira, and others. According to him, these visits underscore the deep respect the NPP has for traditional authority and the crucial role chiefs play in guiding the party.

He further noted that Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, holds traditional leaders in high regard and remains committed to working closely with them to advance the nation’s progress. Napo concluded by urging Ghanaians to vote massively for the NPP, emphasizing that Dr. Bawumia is prepared to lead the country with dedication and a clear vision for development.
