In a significant development for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alex Tetteh, a leading member of the Kennedy Agyapong campaign team and convener for Citizen Eye, Ghana, has announced that Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong will soon join the campaign team of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Currently in the United States, Agyapong is expected to return in the coming weeks to bolster the party’s efforts to secure a victory in the upcoming elections. This move follows Agyapong’s recent participation in the NPP primaries, where he pledged his support for Dr. Bawumia, despite being advised to consider running as an independent candidate.
“Kennedy Agyapong is in the United States of America currently. He will be back soon and he will join the campaign to get Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to become President. He said after the primaries that he will join the campaign and that is what he will do,” Tetteh stated during an interview on Accra-based Okay FM.
Tetteh emphasized Agyapong’s commitment to the party, contrasting it with Alan Kyerematen’s decision to leave the NPP after his primary defeat. “We even counselled him to go Independent but he saw what we said as not making sense. Kennedy is an institution and so he decided to stay with the party unlike Alan Kyerematen who decided to leave when he lost,” Tetteh added.
In a conciliatory gesture, Tetteh also extended an apology to any individuals who may have been aggrieved during the primaries, urging them to unite and support Dr. Bawumia’s campaign. “We stepped on some toes during the primaries, and for that, we apologize. Now is the time for everyone to come on board and help Dr. Bawumia win the election,” he remarked.
The inclusion of Agyapong in Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team is expected to strengthen the NPP’s position, leveraging his influence and resources to galvanize support across the nation.
