Just Like NPP, NDC Will Also Use Oil Money To Expand Free SHS Programme – Dr Apaak

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that its plans to expand the free senior high school programme to include private schools will be funded with the country’s oil revenue just as the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is doing.

This seem to be in sharp contrast to the NDC’s stance on the source of funding for the free SHS. The NDC had even threatened court action against government for using oil money which was meant for infrastructure development to fund the free SHS.

However, explaining the sudden turn around on Kasapa FM,  the Minority Deputy Ranking Member on Education, Dr. Clement Apaak noted that there is nothing wrong with the NDC continuing what the NPP has been doing with the oil revenue.

“The Free SHS is a policy that has benefited all Ghanaians if the government has been able to find money to fund the programme, is there any problem with the NDC continuing in that direction? We are not looking back, we are looking forward. Our flagbearer, Ex-President Mahama has said the Free SHS has come to stay but has been poorly implemented. Our focus is that we want to address the challenges to make sure it serves Ghanaians better,” he said.
