The Spanish club have told PSG’s French striker that he must sign for them this summer or he risks not fulfilling his dream of wearing the famous white shirt.
Kylian Mbappé appears to be having doubts, or at least new options. Real Madrid want certainty. It’s now or never.
According to a report in UK newspaper, The Sunday Times, Madrid chiefs have warned the French star that the much-publicised offer to join the Spanish giants has an expiry date. The report claims that the club has told Mbappé that there is no way back if he changes his mind and decides not to sign with them this summer, and his childhood dream of pulling on the famous white shirt will be dashed, the club instead turning their attention to another global star.
This, of course, is being used as an ultimatum to dissuade Mbappé from the new pressures (that go beyond the sporting sphere), that are coming to him to renew with Paris Saint-Germain, who are trying to convince him with a short contract (two years), with an astronomical financial package. It would be a statement of intent, one that shows the importance he plays at the club.
Madrid’s counter offensive is with the understanding that there is more behind the Parisian club’s latest moves than just Ligue 1 and Champions League success. Behind the club is the Qatari ownership and the player is a strategic asset for the promotion of the World Cup to be held in Qatar at the end of the year. Selling the World Cup event by having three of the biggest stars on the planet under the Qatari umbrella – Mbappé, Messi and Neymar – is a huge incentive.
But across in Spain there is no interest in prolonging a soap opera that has gone on long enough already. Years have passed and decisions from both sides have been made, thus far keeping them apart, despite clear desires to unite. And now, with Mbappé’s development getting close to reaching its full potential, the time is right, also given the nature of his contract which means no transfer fee is required.
Los Blancos do not want anything to get in the way of the long-awaited signing of Mbappé, especially now that it is closer and more feasible than ever. And the player’s advisors will be aware that in the past Florentino Pérez has shown that he is not one for bluffing, as seen last spring when Sergio Ramos was playing around with contract negotiations then found out that the proposal had expired.
The Champions League round of 16 tie, brought about by a frustrating re-draw, upset the plans and delayed the pre-contract roadmap to avoid any distraction for the player. But the ultimate goal remains unchanged, and Mbappé is still expected to become a Real Madrid player this summer.
However, Kylian Mbappe’s mother has confirmed that he has agreed deals with both current club Paris Saint-Germain and potential suitors Real Madrid, and will soon decide which side he wants to sign for.
Los Blancos have longed for Mbappe for years now and attempted to sign him last year, though he ended up staying at PSG for another season with his current contract set to expire at the end of the campaign.
Mbappe previously teased that a decision had “almost” been made, and his mother Fayza Lamari has now confirmed agreements are in place with both PSG and Real.
She told KoraPlus: “We will not have new meetings to discuss Mbappe’s future, these meetings are now over.
“Now we have found an agreement with both Real Madrid and PSG and the discussions are over because it is Kylian who has to choose now.
“The two offers, that of PSG and Real, are almost identical. At Real, my son will have control of his image rights! We will now await his decision.
“In the Real Madrid offer we have full power of image rights, on the other hand there is an economic balance that rewards this thing, in short there is no difference between the two are similar.”
90min previously revealed that Real expect Mbappe to confirm where his future lays before the Champions League final later this month, while PSG are growingly increasingly optimistic that he will choose to remain at the Parc des Princes.
Mbappe will likely be in action for PSG on Saturday for the final time this season when they host Metz to conclude their Ligue 1 campaign.
