The Transition Team of Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has announced the establishment of a preparatory team to spearhead his ambitious anti-corruption agenda as he prepares to take office.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the move signals Mr. Mahama’s commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring transparency, a cornerstone of his successful 2024 presidential campaign.
The preparatory team, according to the statement, will collect information from the public and other credible sources on alleged corruption cases. This effort is expected to set the stage for a sweeping initiative dubbed Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).
The initiative aims to identify and recover assets derived from corrupt activities while holding those involved accountable.
“This preparatory team will lay the foundation for one of President-elect Mahama’s key priorities—restoring public confidence in governance by rooting out corruption,” the statement read.
Details of the team’s membership are as follows:
Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa – Chairman
Mr. Daniel Yao Domelevo – Former Auditor-General
COP (Rtd) Nathaniel Kofi Boakye
Mr. Martin Kpebu – Private Legal Practitioner
Mr. Raymond Archer – Investigative Journalist
Mr. Mahama has vowed to make anti-corruption efforts a defining feature of his administration, following widespread public discontent over corruption scandals under the outgoing government.
Observers will be watching closely to see how the new administration balances its anti-corruption efforts with the complexities of governance.
Mr. Mahama is set to be sworn in on January 7, 2025.
