John Mahama Doesn’t Respect The People Of Volta- Chairman Wontumi Reacts To Boycott

The Ashanti regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has reacted to the absence of former President John Mahama from the celebration of this years’ 66th Independence Day.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has said he wouldn’t partake in the celebration of the historic event because he doesn’t subscribe to the idea of staging the event in other regions rather than Greater Accra region.

“I don’t want to be part of this party jamboree. Independence is a solemn national celebration; we should celebrate it at the Independence Square and everybody who wants to come could come” he explained.

According to the aspiring presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Independence Day celebration is a national event in the country but has unfortunately been turned into a political jamboree by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), hence his decision not to associate himself with political events.

But reacting to the news, the NPP Chairman popularly known as Chairman Wontumi told Wontumionline.com that the former President lacks “respect” for the region that gives the NDC massive votes during elections.

“I am sad that John Mahama doesn’t have any iota of respect for the people of Volta. Politically, this is a region that gives the NDC a lot of votes and you have a former President who benefitted from it boycotting a national celebration there- this is very sad. He doesn’t respect the people and they must stand up and vote against him and the NDC in 2024”, Chairman Wontumi said
