Deputy Secretary-General at the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Mr Joshua Ansah has urged President Akufo-Addo to consider forfeiting his ex gratia together with his appointees if he so desires to ease the burden on the economy amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
The President during the May Day celebrations announced that he has directed for all salary increment of the executive arm of government to be put on hold as “contribution to reduce the damage to our public revenue and to help hasten our nation’s recovery from the ravages of the pandemic.”
However, Mr Ansah speaking on the First Take on 3FM Wednesday told Dzifa Bampoh that the President would have done the nation more good if he had forfeited his ex gratia for their first four years in power.
When Dzifa asked him whether or not it would have been a big sacrifice, if the government has said that at the end of the four years they would not take ex gratia, he said “That is it. But once they did not talk about the ex gratia and they are talking about monthly salary, I don t think it is enough.”
