Damongo, Savannah Region – In a significant display of respect for traditional authority, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), visited the Yagbonwura, Overlord of Gonjaland, during his campaign tour in the Savannah Region.
Upon arrival at the palace, Dr. Bawumia demonstrated his respect for Gonja customs by prostrating before the Yagbonwura, Bi-Kunuto Jewu Soale. This gesture, emblematic of the deep respect Gonjas have for their king, was widely shared on social media, highlighting the Vice President’s adherence to traditional protocols.
During this visit to the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs in Damongo, the Yagbonwura, who also serves as the President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs, expressed a strong belief in Dr. Bawumia’s presidential prospects. In a speech delivered on his behalf by the Kpembewura, the Yagbonwura stated, “It is possible” for Dr. Bawumia to become the President of Ghana.
The Kpembewura conveyed the Overlord’s sentiments, affirming, “This is from the Overlord to you. You say it is possible: yes, it is possible that you will be the President of Ghana.”
Dr. Bawumia’s campaign itinerary across various regions includes meetings with both traditional and religious leaders, as well as interactions with traders and youth. His approach underscores a commitment to engaging with diverse communities and respecting Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
