Issues Over Adom-Otchere’s Detention
Many Ghanaians have questioned the strange and bizarre circumstance under which Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare who was appointed in 2023 by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) has just been kept at post by the current Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC). This is view of the fact that they have sacked every CEO appointed under and by the previous NPP administration except Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare.

Tongues have started waggling over the actual motive behind the arrest and subsequent detention of Broadcast Journalist and former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere.

Adjetey Adjei-Laryea- CEO of Devnest Systems were arrested and detained Thursday in connection with a revenue assurance contract between the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and a private firm owned by the proprietor of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).
The OSP claims to be examining possible procurement breaches, including a sole-sourced contract awarded to a company other than the one approved by the GACL Board.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO),and the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare who signed the contract is walking freely.
This has raised eyesbrows over the propriety of the OSP in arresting and detaining the company’s former Board Chairman, Adom-Otchere who by law does not sign contracts.

What amazed many including a lot of NDC supporters is how popular NDC woman and its onetime Parliamentary Candidate for Weija-Gbawe constituency, Obuobia Opoku-Darko who was appointed to the GACL and was made to play second fiddle to her as Deputy CEO, an indication that Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare must be very powerful and well connected to the top.
Interestingly, Obuobia was shipped out the GACL as Deputy CEO in the heat of the melee yesterday to a new role as Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) Secretariat.
Ms. Darko-Opoku, who was appointed to the GACL position in March 2025, is expected to lead the newly established Secretariat responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.
The reassignment was confirmed in a letter from the Office of the President, citing Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 15(1) of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund Act, 2025 (Act 1144).
Her appointment to the new position is subject to the advice of the Fund’s Governing Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
