During an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on October 1, Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), addressed concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding alleged discrepancies in the voter register. Mensa revealed that while the NDC had initially outlined five categories of issues, the party has yet to provide any concrete evidence to substantiate its claims.
“The commission demanded further evidence from the NDC regarding these issues,” Mensa stated. She added that the NDC acknowledged such discrepancies are typical of any voter register and noted that the purpose of the exhibition exercise is to uncover and address these inconsistencies. Despite this, the NDC has not presented further evidence to the EC.
Mensa emphasized the importance of collaboration among political parties to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, stating that the EC is open to rectifying any legitimate concerns. She acknowledged that the current voter register is not perfect and is still being refined, stressing that the ongoing process is designed to accommodate modifications. “This IPAC meeting has been organized to allow all parties to present any evidence regarding discrepancies in the voter register. It must be noted that the current register is not final,” she emphasized, reiterating the EC’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
The NDC had previously raised concerns about missing voter data, unidentifiable entries, and illegal voter transfers in the provisional register, calling for a re-exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register to address these issues. However, the lack of further evidence from the party has delayed progress on resolving the matter.
