Investigate Reasons For Your Loss And Stop Blaming EC – NPP To Mahama

The Navrongo Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Moses Amoah has entreated the Former President, John Dramani Mahama, to self-introspect rather than continue to blame the Electoral Commission (EC) for the party’s loss at the 2020 general election.

He said the NDC should begin to assess the reasons for its losses, consolidate its ideas and strategies and adequately prepare for the next general election. He said this while speaking to Samuel Mbura on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East Show. Mr. Amoah encouraged the Former President Mahama not to drag the good name of the EC in the mud.

“What makes it sadder is that they have not learnt anything. They do not even know why they lost and that is more consequential. Instead of you to do a thoughtful assessment of your performance of the 2020 election to see the cause for Ghanaians rejecting you with over 500,000 votes, you are rather going about blaming the NPP and EC for your defeat,” he explained.

He said even the NPP itself has a lot of concerns with the results declared in parts of the country. Mr. Amoah cited the Pusiga and Salvelugu election petitions as examples. “I am surprised John Mahama speaks like that. As he speaks, all the Constituencies they think something went wrong, all those cases are in court. Equally, the NPP also has some constituencies that we think that the NDC and the EC probably did something wrong. An example is the Pusiga Case and Salvelugu. We are in court as we speak,” he said.

Meanwhile, the NDC’s Upper East Regional Youth Organiser Abraham Labona speaking on the same platform, made light the statements by the NPP. He reiterated the party’s position that the EC’s handling of the election leaves much to be desired.

“But for Jean Mensah and the Supreme Court, the NPP lost the election. We went to the Supreme Court with our petition and with our petition we indicated clearly that nobody got 50+1 and the petition we raised was that the NDC got 46.7% and the NPP got 40.9%. The Supreme Court ruled the vice versa, they did not even go through the merits of the case,” he said.
