A member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has bemoaned the rise in inflation in the country.
Ghana’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 37.2 per cent in September of 2022, for the 16th straight month from 33.9 per cent in August.
This was the highest reading since July of 2001.
Also, prices of imported goods accelerated faster than domestic items.
This is largely due to the weakening cedi.
In a Facebook post, Mr Otchere-Darko, who is also the founder of the Danquah Institute said:” If this inflation does not stop galloping, soon it will be racing alone on its own because incomes are struggling to even see the back of inflation’s distant shadow, never mind the many unemployed with no income.”
He added: “The struggle is real…”
