I’m Currently In Hiding, The Police Have Failed To Protect Me – Odike

Founder and Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai ‘Odike’ has revealed he is currently in a hideout.

The politician cum-bueinessman says he had gone into hiding following the alleged attack on him at his office on Monday.

Armed men have allegedly attacked the Founder and Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai ‘Odike’ in his office at Patase, Kumasi.

The attackers vandalised cars parked in front of the office.

The gunmen allegedly rushed to the office of the former presidential aspirant at about 4:30 pm on Monday, shooting randomly.

He claimed that, even though the Ashanti Region Police have launched an investigation into the gun attack, they are dragging their feet.

He claimed that the police did not attend to him on Tuesday because all of the officers were attending to the Vice President, who was in town.

Mr Adae recently incurred the wrath of Manhyia Palace in Kumasi for his comments on the role of chiefs in illegal mining, so the motive for the attack is unknown.

Odike told Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm’s Frontline that an informant at Manhyia alerted him to the impending attack.

He claimed to have seen Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s driver among his attackers.

He also mentioned that the Police have failed to provide him with security despite the threat against him.

Speaking recently on a Kumasi-based radio station, Mr. Akwasi Addai criticised chiefs for failing to help end the ‘galamsey’ menace.

He urged the youth to rise up and demonstrate against chiefs if the traditional rulers do not clarify their roles in or stance against illegal mining.

His comment, however, was described as distasteful and unsubstantiated, with the intention of tarnishing Manhyia’s image.

On Friday, some chiefs of the Kumasi Traditional Council performed rituals and slaughtered a ram to ostensibly expel Odike from Manhyia.

Odike’s words are considered disrespectful by the chiefs, and he has no business in Manhyia.

However, Odike has maintained that his comments were not distasteful or disrespectful, but rather accurate and should be accepted by all.

He told Kwabena Agyapong, the host that the comments he made were bitter but needed to be said.
