Former President Jerry John Rawlings has urged the Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye to ensure the menace of rising sea erosion at the coastal areas is addressed as soon as possible.
According to him, persons living in the coastal areas have had to lose their lands, properties and even life to the sea because of erosion.
He warned he’ll personally storm parliament to express his dissatisfaction over the matter if it’s not addressed.
“It’s happening bit by bit. I am sharing this with you, because when it happens to you that is when you will appreciate how crucial it is to have soil under your feet,” Rawlings noted when a Parliamentary delegation led by the Speaker paid a courtesy call to sympathise with him following the death of his mother.
He added, “Mr Speaker you should pay a visit to the communities and see for yourself. We need to extend the ground beyond what they are now.”
