I’ll Create More Than 100,000 Jobs With Tree Planting Initiative – Mahama Promises

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has promised that the next NDC government under his leadership will create over 100,000 new jobs for the youth through a new tree planting program if he is elected during the December 2020 polls.

This is part of the NDC’s grand plan to create over a million jobs for young people within the first term in office if given the nod.

According to Mr. Mahama, the NDC government if elected will tap into the available afforestation funds to create these jobs.

The former president revealed in an address on Weozor TV, that his government will invest more $100 million into the program if given the nod.

He said, “We are going to come with a new initiative in forestry, tree growing and it is going to be in every district of this country. We are going to employ young people to be involved in tree growing and reclaiming of some of our lands that are spoilt. We intend to inject about $100 million to $200 million into that sector. I’m sure that will create some 100,000 to 200,000 jobs.”

This promise by John Mahama follows a similar program by the ruling NPP government which announced in 2018 that it had engaged over 60,000 youth in the Youth in Afforestation Programme.
