I Won’t Tamper With Electoral Laws Before 2024 Elections – Akufo-Addo

Ghanaians have been promised that President Nana Addo Dankwa-Akufo-Addo will not tamper with the country’s electoral rules before the 2024 elections.

Akufo-Addo, speaking at the second Kofi Annan Peace and Security Forum in Accra, committed to pass over power to whoever is elected president in Ghana’s 2024 election, setting an example for leaders in the sub-region.

“I commit to continue to uphold the fundamentals of the ECOWAS protocol on democracy and good governance as President of the Republic of Ghana and current chair of the authority of the ECOWAS States and Governments.”

“I will not make any big changes to the electoral laws in the last six months before the next elections,” he stated. I shall adhere to the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana’s two-term limit for the exercise of presidential authority.”

“I will not be a hindrance to the conduct of free, fair, and transparent elections,” Akufo-Addo continued. On January 7, 2025, I will pass over power to the next elected president, and I will gather my fellow ECOWAS heads of state to sign the promise and support them in their efforts to promote democracy and good governance in their individual nations.”
