On the occasion of International Youth Day, John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the upcoming 2024 General Elections, has promised to support the development of skilled and entrepreneurial youth.
According to the former President, he plans to create a favorable economic climate for investment by reducing the tax burdens that have been implemented by the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Expressing concern over the increasing unemployment rates, high living costs, and lack of opportunities for young people, the ex-President lamented that these factors have led to widespread disillusionment among the youth. He assured that he will make efforts to swiftly address these issues and bring about positive changes for the youth.
Under a fresh NDC government, there will be a prompt focus on providing the younger generation with the essential entrepreneurial expertise and capabilities crucial for a stable future. We will implement a 24/7 economic framework that includes rewards and tax advantages for manufacturers opting to operate additional shifts, thereby generating increased employment opportunities.
“We are committed to reducing the heavy tax load placed on Ghanaian enterprises and investors by the current NPP government. This tax burden has diminished Ghana’s reputation as a prominent investment hub in Africa,” he stated in a message commemorating the youth day last Saturday.
He praised the youth for their priceless contributions to the progress of the nation, recognizing them as the pivotal energy behind constructive transformation and creative advancements.
