Former President and founder of the National Democratic Congress, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings has once again reiterated his stance that he has never been corrupt in his entire years of public service.
Rawlings made this declaration in interview with renowned Ghanaian journalist, Kwaku Sakyi Addo on Asaase Radio in Accra.
According to him, even though he stayed in power for 19 years, he and his wife never had a foreign account, explaining that the only foreign account he held was at the insistence of the late former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.
Kofi Annan told me he will need me to help in the UN anti-AIDS campaign and once in a while the UN will pay me some allowance.” He said.
Mr. Rawlings explained that the foreign was no longer functional following the closure of the program for which it was opened. “The campaign has ended long ago and that account has been closed. I don’t have any hidden foreign account and she (his wife) does not’’. He reiterated.
The former President also explained that people had been trying so hard to tarnish his reputation but he is not vulnerable to such machinations because he has never been corrupt.
