Edward Ennin, a former Member of Parliament for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) representing Obuasi East, has made explosive allegations regarding misappropriated state funds and illicit activities by government officials.
In an interview with UTV, Ennin claimed to possess detailed evidence about the locations of looted state funds allegedly siphoned during the tenure of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The former MP expressed his readiness to testify before any investigative body, including the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee.
“I have evidence of where the stolen money is hidden and I am prepared to testify,” Ennin said, emphasizing his commitment to transparency and accountability.
Ambassadors Allegedly Aware of Stolen Funds
Ennin alleged that foreign ambassadors from France, the United Kingdom, and the United States are privy to information about the hidden funds. He recounted a meeting at the home of a prominent individual where, he claimed, these ambassadors discussed the illicit transfer of state resources abroad.
“The conversation that took place was dangerous,” Ennin disclosed, hinting at an international dimension to the alleged misappropriation.
Commitment to Transparency
Ennin underscored his decision to come forward as a duty to the nation, stating, “We have to put Ghana first. When the time comes, I will go and present my evidence.”
Galamsey and Offshore Investments
The former MP also hinted at exposing government officials allegedly involved in illegal small-scale mining, known as galamsey. He mentioned that these individuals include Members of Parliament and District Chief Executives.
In a related revelation, Ennin shared details of a visit to Guyana, where he observed investments tied to Ghana’s oil blocks. This experience, he said, strengthened his resolve to shed light on corruption and mismanagement of state resources.
Implications and Reactions
Ennin’s revelations have sparked widespread attention and raised questions about the scope of alleged corruption during the Akufo-Addo administration. His willingness to testify could lead to significant developments, should the allegations be substantiated through investigations.
As calls for accountability grow louder, it remains to be seen how authorities and implicated parties will respond to Ennin’s claims.
