Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has refuted charges that he has abandoned the economy in order to focus on digitalization, claiming that digitization will boost economic growth.
He claimed that because the President entrusted him with the economy when they came to power in 2016, he devised the best approach to handle it.
“People sometimes comment, ‘Well, we thought you were an economist, but you’re doing so much in the IT field.’ Have you forgotten about economics? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no Indeed, it is for the sake of the economy that I am focusing on digitisation, because without those foundations, our economy will be unable to stand on its own.
“We need to develop those pillars to allow all of our sectors in the economy to compete,” he stated Monday at the Jubilee House, when participants of the Agric bootcamp paid a visit to the Presidency.
He went on to say that his engagement in IT aims to enable people that come to Ghana to do business reduce hazards.
“When I came into government and became the head of the Economic Management Team, the President gave me that mandate and opportunity to focus on how best we can transform and modernise Ghana to ensure that some of the challenges, some of the risks that people who just want to operate in our economy face are mitigated, how we make this economy an efficient economy, and that is why I have focused on digitalisation.”
Following months of ridicule by certain members of the Minority over the poor performance of the Cedi and increasing debts, the Vice President is slated to deliver a significant address on the economy on April 7, 2022.
