Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson has admitted firing a gun at a voters registration centre in her constituency.
According to her, it was a way of protecting herself as her police escort had not yet started work. She further claimed she went to the registration centre because she heard her opponent had bused people to the registration centre.
Speaking on Adom FM she said, “none of my men had guns on then when we got to the centre. I fired the shots myself.”
She added, “I’m a Member of Parliament, I need to protect myself. It was at dawn, my police escort had not started work yet. So that is a mechanism I have adopted in his absence.”
The Kasoa Peace Town Top Hill Down polling station was closed down on Monday after gun men besieged the premises.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate Naa Koryoo Okunor accused the sitting MP for being the brain behind.
