I Didn’t Want To Run For President Again But Akufo-Addo’s Mismanagement Forced Me To Come And Rescue Ghana – John Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has cited President Akufo-Addo’s handling of the country as his primary motivation for running for the presidency once again. Mahama, who served as Ghana’s president from 2012 to 2017 under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed disappointment over what he views as Akufo-Addo’s failure to propel Ghana forward since taking office in 2017.

During his first term, Mahama’s administration faced significant economic hurdles, including slowing GDP growth and rising inflation. Additionally, his government was plagued by allegations of corruption and criticism for mismanagement of state resources. Despite these challenges, Mahama’s tenure also saw the completion of several infrastructure projects, such as roads, schools, and hospitals.

Mahama was defeated in the 2016 election by President Akufo-Addo, who campaigned on promises to revitalize the economy and tackle corruption. His loss was attributed to the economic struggles, accusations of corruption, and perceptions of inefficiency during his leadership.

In 2020, Mahama sought a second term but was again defeated by Akufo-Addo. The NDC disputed the results of that election, leading to post-election controversy.

Now, Mahama is seeking a third opportunity to lead the country, stating that his previous experience, combined with lessons learned, positions him as the best candidate to steer Ghana back on the right path. He has pledged to prioritize tackling corruption, improving the economy, and delivering better governance if elected.

Mahama’s decision to run again has elicited mixed reactions from the public. Some view him as a viable alternative to the current administration, while others remain skeptical of his ability to deliver on his promises, given the challenges that marred his previous tenure.
