The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has advised Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the newly appointed running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to demonstrate humility as he joins the flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in their campaign for the upcoming general election. The Asantehene emphasized that humility is essential for ensuring compatibility and progress within the party.
This counsel was given during a ceremony at Manhyia, where President Akufo-Addo formally presented Dr. Prempeh as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate. In his brief speech, the Asantehene reminisced about the days when he supported Dr. Prempeh through school, including paying his fees, and acknowledged his numerous achievements.
Despite Dr. Prempeh’s successes, the Asantehene addressed rumors regarding the Energy Minister’s attitude, specifically allegations of arrogance. Expressing surprise, the King stated that he never observed such behavior in Dr. Prempeh, whom he affectionately described as his son.
The Asantehene urged Dr. Prempeh to maintain a humble demeanor and ensure that Dr. Bawumia never regrets selecting him as his running mate, stressing the importance of a harmonious and effective partnership for the NPP’s success.
