I Can Never Disrespect Yagbonwura, My Overlord – Abu Jinapor Says Amid Ban From Gonjaland Palaces

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and Damongo Member of Parliament (MP), Samuel A. Jinapor, has pledged his respect for the traditional authority of Gonjaland and committed to resolving any misunderstandings causing friction between him and the Gonjaland leadership.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr. Jinapor assured Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale, the Overlord of Gonjaland, and all chiefs in the area of his deep reverence for royalty. He emphasized his intention to address and resolve any issues contributing to the discontent.

“For me, the fundamental point I would like to make is that the Yagbonwura is my father, my grandfather, my Overlord, and there is absolutely nothing that I or anyone else can do about that. I continue to have huge regard and respect for Yagbonwuras in the past and this current Yagbonwura in particular,” Mr. Jinapor affirmed.

This statement follows reports of growing dissatisfaction with Mr. Jinapor, which led to the Yagbonwura reportedly restricting his access to all palaces in Gonjaland. Media sources indicated that the Yagbonwura’s decision stemmed from Mr. Jinapor’s alleged “disrespect and insubordination” towards the traditional authority and the Yagbon skin. The Yagbonwura accused Mr. Jinapor of “using the powers of the executive to circumvent the traditional authority and orders of the Yagbonwura in an attempt to evade accountability and to counter the orders so given by the Yagbonwura.”

However, Mr. Jinapor refuted these perceptions, expressing his unwavering respect for the chieftaincy institution. “I have extraordinary respect, regard, and reverence for the chieftaincy institution generally, and I have demonstrated it in all humility and honesty as a minister,” he stated.

To mend relations and ensure harmony, Mr. Jinapor pledged to take necessary steps to address any miscommunications and misunderstandings. He expressed his willingness to seek guidance and consultation to restore normalcy and facilitate cooperation for the development of Damongo and the Savannah Region.

“I will consult and seek guidance on the way forward for normalcy to prevail so that all stakeholders can continue to work together to bring development to the people of Damongo and the Savannah Region as a whole,” he added.

Mr. Jinapor called for peace and unity in Gonjaland, stressing that a harmonious environment is crucial for pursuing a common development agenda. As the MP for Damongo, he reiterated his commitment to amicably addressing any issues that could impede the region’s progress.
