For those unfamiliar, demyelinating diseases cause damage to the myelin sheath, the protective covering around nerve fibers in the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Damage to this sheath disrupts nerve impulses, leading to neurological symptoms such as difficulty walking, vision problems, and changes in bowel and bladder function.
