How The Mighty Have Fallen; ‘Darling Boy’ Bawumia Booed At Anlo After A Rousing Welcome – Real Or A Calculated NDC Agenda?

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana was booed like a common criminal while he mounted the podium to deliver an address on behalf of the President at the 2022 Hogbetsotso festival in Anloga yesterday.

The Vice President joined a host of Chiefs and traditional leaders in Anloga yesterday including the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru and a representative of the Kwahuhene to mark the colorful event under the auspices of the King of Anlo, Togbe Sri III.

After an initial rousing welcome when the second gentleman arrived at the durbar grounds, the story changed unfortunately to that of booing and jeering while the Vice President delivered a speech on behalf of the President.

The situation later took a dramatic turn as what was supposed to be a day for highlighting the beauty of traditional leadership turned into a clash between NPP and NDC supporters with one group attempting to embarass the Veep while the other group also attempted to deflate the damage.

But what has really gone wrong for the Vice President, a man who enjoyed almost kingly status in Ghanaian political circles as an economic colossus or messiah as some preferred to call him?

Indeed, even he himself admitted in his address yesterday that the country’s economy has suffered severe adverse impact from the ravages of COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War which has had a global impact on economies.

According to Dr. Bawumia, up until these two phenomenon erupted, Ghana’s economy was largely on an upward trajectory, even though it appears many Ghanaians do not entirely agree.

The Vice President, despite carving his political image on the altar of economic lectures and debates has suddenly resorted to long lectures on digitalisation and Ghana Card politics.

Was there a grand agenda by the NDC to embarass the Vice President at the durbar grounds yesterday or is it the case that what happened was purely the exact sentiment of the citizens?

Only Time will Tell.
