How Military Invaded Ashaiman Over Murder of A Soldier

Military men numbering about 20 on Tuesday morning invaded Ashaiman, a suburb of Accra, over the alleged murder of their colleague over the weekend.

Sheriff Imoro was allegedly killed by a gang after he visited his girlfriend in the vicinity.

Locals were left in a state of fear and trepidation Tuesday dawn over the development forcing them to stay indoors to avoid being brutalised. Most shops were still closed at the time of filing this report.

“This morning, between 3:30am to 4am, I had series of calls from residents that there were armed military men in the community brutalising civilians, preventing them from coming out of their homes and houses to go about their daily duties,” the MP for Ashaiman Ernest Norgbey said on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (7 March).

“I made a series of calls to the police and others, but to no avail [and] fortunately I was able to get the deputy Minister of Defence and we are all making efforts to calm the situation so that residents can go about their duties,” he told the host Kwaku Nhyira-Addo.

“We don’t know exactly the cause of this action, but we are suspecting it’s a reprisal attack on the community because of the incident that occurred,” Norgbey added.
